Friday Food Packs The Friday Food Pack program is designed to support any Tecumseh Student who may not have access to sufficient food/ nutrients over the weekend. Each Friday, eligible students receive a pack filled with easy-to-eat, non-perishable snacks that can help bridge the gap until they return to school on Monday. These packs are put directly into the students lockers/ backpacks, as to not call attention or single any student out. CLC Locker Room at Tecumseh Middle School The Locker Room houses new and gently used clothing items to students in need. This program ensures that students have access to essential clothing, ranging from everyday wear to winter gear. By offering a variety of items, including coats, hats, gloves, and regular school attire, this program helps students stay warm during the colder months and feel comfortable and confident throughout the school year. This program also extends to providing help with uniforms for extracurricular activities. (Ex. Band uniform & shoes.) Hygiene Items We also provide hygiene items for all grades as needed. These items include essentials such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and other personal care products. School Supplies CLC is dedicated to ensuring that all students have the necessary tools for academic success. We will help to provide items from a student's class list, including essentials like backpacks, notebooks, pencils, markers, and paper. By offering these essential items, we strive to support all students' learning experience. How To Access These Basic Need Items Do you know a Tecumseh Student in need of the above programs? Any student in need may be referred by reaching out to your student's current Teacher, Counselor, Building Administrator, or directly to a Community Learning Connection Staff Member. Family Nights / Getting Ahead Classes
Family Nights/ Getting Ahead classes are a 12 session curriculum that helps adults facing financial hardship build their resources for a more prosperous life for themselves, their families, and community. This class is led by an experienced facilitator, who encourages exploring critical issues that may cause individuals to experience economic difficulty. The program facilitator guides participants through an assessment of their own resources (banking, housing, jobs, transportation) and how to build on those resources as part of their move towards self-sufficiency. While parents/adults are learning valuable tools & concepts to improve their future, their children are engaged with games, activities, and homework help. Dinner is also provided for the participating families. This class takes place in the Winter/Spring months, and is limited to 10 families per session. Upon completion of the Getting Ahead course, each family will receive a monetary stipend for their participation. If you are interested in participating or learning more information about this course, please contact Heather Franco- [email protected] Harvest Hope
The Harvest Hope fundraiser dinner was held in 2023 to help raise not only funds, but also aimed at raising awareness about the increasing number of homeless students in Tecumseh. As stated in the McKinney-Vento Act, homelessness is defined as lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. CLC in partnership with Tecumseh Public Schools desire to help alleviate these struggles and create a positive impact on the lives of these children. We have been able to assist qualifying Tecumseh students and their families by providing assistance with the following: gas cards, obtaining permanent housing, groceries, and other additional needs that may arise. Please contact Heather Franco; CLC's Family and Community Outreach Coordinator if you are struggling with housing and qualify as a McKinney-Vento Student. ![]() Building Healthy Communities There are multiple areas that contribute to the well-being of an individual. These include emotional, social, spiritual, physical, environmental, occupational, and intellectual. While each is important on its own, together they form the foundation of our well-being! In school, the well-being of our students helps ensure the highest potential for learning. Part of that learning process includes our staff. Therefore, their well-being is equally important to the education process and the success of your child. To help our school incorporate well-being into our day, we applied for and were awarded the Building Healthy Communities: Step Up for School Wellness program. This program provides resources and support for our students and staff around physical activity, physical education, healthy eating, nutrition education, social & emotional health, and overall well-being strategies. The program allows our school to select from a variety of resources each year and implement the program at our pace. This year (2024-2025) we were awarded grant money to implement programs at Tecumseh Acres and Tecumseh Middle School. Like to learn more? Please visit bhcwsu.org/ ROX
